"Cameras don't take photos people do;
but not all people are photographers,
and not all photographers are artists."

ABOUT Beverly Guhl

I've been a bestselling artist and author for nearly 30 years now—longer if you include scribbling things on the walls and furniture when I was a toddler.

So, how does an artist become a photographer? Well, it began as a love affair with Photoshop (is it sick to love a software?). Many years into this love affair (still going strong), along comes digital cameras! I got a simple camera, and like most people I was just taking pics in "auto" mode, still considering myself an artist not a photographer, and rightly so. My photos were like those of anyone who doesn't know how to use a camera to the fullest, and doesn't know what aperture or white balance means. It wasn't until November of 2005 that I decided to really learn photography. And wow, I became a woman obsessed. For two years I dobut a day went by that I wasn't taking lots of photos of something or someone. My goal was first, not embarass myself, and second, merge my artistic and photographic skills to create what I call "artistic photography."

When people ask me what I enjoy photographing the most, I pause, realizing I love photographing so many things! I have to say I enjoy photographing people the most, and pets. I photograph everything else for fun and to satisfy my creative self! I can look at a puddle of water and find something captivating about it to photograph. That's the amazing thing about being an artist and/or a photographer, you SEE the world down to the tiniest detail. It's truly a joy and a gift I treasure, and am happy to share with others. Some of the best moments in my life as a photographer have been when people gasp when they see their headshot or portrait in-camera (and later as a print), and can't believe how wonderful they look. I try to explain that it's not Photoshop or retouching, that a great image is all about light and having a photographer who knows what they're doing. Everyone can look amazing naturally!

I divide my time between being a photographer and a greeting card designer for Recycled Paper Greetings! (Bookmark this page to stay updated on which of my cards are currently in stores!) My humorous photography appears on cards year round. This satisfies my artistic and wisecracking spirit.

I live in Texas with my wonderful husband and two adorable bichon-children (ok, dogs, but don't tell them).

I hope you enjoy my work will consider allowing me the priviledge of being your photographer! Thank you!
